An Exquisite Book

A great friend of mine has a YOPD group that I decided to join, thankfully I did , but it took me way too long. But because of this amazing group I met an amazing woman, and made a new friend named Laura Russell. Laura is a photographer and book artist and when we met her current project was a book about 26 women with Parkinson’s Disease, she calls us, Exquisite Warriors.

I was asked if I’d like to be one of the women who shares her greatest Parkinson’s fear and be in the book. Yes! What an honor! The book brought tears to my eyes, not only for its intimate portrait Parkinson’s disease…but for its inspiration as well. Anyone who flips through its pages will no doubt be deeply moved and inspired by immense bravery and perspective. So please do flip though, there is a link below to do so and buy a second edition copy for yourself to support organizations that support women with Parkinson’s.

“Three different narratives flow on the text panels opposite the photos: FATE, FACT, FEAR. On the top panels, FATE: an abecedarian, or ABC book, of PD symptoms. Weaving through the middle panels, FACT, a narrative about my own battle from dark diagnosis to newfound hope, an action plan that brings optimism, and a community of friends and supporters. (Scroll down this page to read the entire text from the FACT panels.) And, FEAR, the bottom panels: a quotation from each warrior about their biggest fears as they face this disease.

In the end, this book is an empowering exploration of exquisite women. Facing the battle of our lives with strength, grace and dignity. 26 women fighting fate, facing facts, conquering fear.

All gross proceeds from the sale of this deluxe limited-edition artist book will be donated to organizations supporting women with Parkinson’s Disease. Thank you.” ~Laura Russell
